Module 5: Habits
Creating New Brain Habits
Small steps change your brain
A habit is something you do so often it becomes automatic — like brushing your teeth or packing your bag. Your brain builds a pathway each time you repeat something, and the more you do it, the easier it gets.
How habits form
Think of a habit like a path in the grass:
• The first time you walk it, it is barely there
• Each time you walk it again, the path gets clearer
• After a while, it becomes easy to follow without even thinking
Building good thinking habits
You can use the same idea to build critical thinking habits:
• Pause before you react
• Ask questions before you judge
• Check if something is true before you share it
• Use bunny thoughts, not shark thoughts
The key to making habits stick
• Start tiny - one small step at a time
• Be consistent - do it every day, even for just a moment
• Celebrate small wins - each step forward matters
• Keep going - you are not there yet, but you will be!
The more you practice, the more your brain rewires. Good thinking habits last a lifetime.
